The first Muslim family settled in the area in the early 1930's.
In 1983, the Islamic Society of the Gold Coast was formed.
The first Jumaah was in February of that year and the Imam was Kasim Omar.
Dr.Chothia was the second Imam.
The first Eid was at 21 Whiting St.
On the 15th.December.1992, the foundation for the Islamic Centre was laid, & K.D.Phillip was given the contract for the "lock up stage."
The rest of the work was completed by many volunteers.
Construction of the Gold Coast Masjid was completed in June 1996.
The entire project, approaching A$1M, was funded privately; a Malaysian interest, being the single biggest financial contributor.
